East Meets West on the Thames

picture
And what a venue to meet in: the stylish Old Billingsgate Market as over a thousand people enjoyed a Red Cross charity ball for which B&H Sound Services provided technical support.

‘East Meets West’ encompassed everything from a dragon dance through West End stars performing songs from popular shows. The video presentation of humanitarian work also emphasised the coming together of Eastern and Western cultures.

Technical arrangements were complex with two separate sites, and the system had to be rapidly repositioned to a different area.

Technical Director Peter Leverick of Newleaf Outside Broadcast said, ‘We were absolutely delighted with the service B&H gave. As usual, they were professional and very accommodating with many changes at short notice. We had very positive feedback with everybody extremely pleased.’

Flexibility marked the occasion as B&H dove-tailed equipment with a system pre-rigged for a later event. It put into practice the ethos of the whole gathering – that a blending of resources enhances excellence.
Motivational Music

Uppingham School recently welcomed former student and now world famous conductor and motivational speaker Benjamin Zander for a weekend of events.

An AV system was needed to capture the facial expressions of Mr. Zander when he was conducting the orchestra. B&H Sound Services provided cameras and large projection screens to convey his dynamic style. Students were eagerly involved as Benjamin Zander challenged them to motivational transformation as well as musical participation.

Fiona Bettles Marketing Manager said, ‘We have worked with B&H on a number of projects. They always ensure the smooth running of events from a technical point of view. There were so many parts to this whole weekend and all went seamlessly. We knew that we could rely on B&H to make it happen.’

B&H facilitated all the various elements – enabling the dynamic message of motivation to transform the enthusiastic young audience.

World Vision Celebration and Connection

When the well known charity World Vision celebrated their 25th anniversary at Christ the Cornerstone Church in Milton Keynes, B&H were brought in to provide technical support. The varied programme included keynote speeches from an international panel including the Evangelical Alliance’s Joel Edwards with musical performances and worship led by Noel Richards.

A high quality PA system and projection screen was provided for the main auditorium, as well as additional linked plasma screens for the reception area.

Jonathan Francis, World Vision Church Resources Officer, said, ‘The commitment of the B&H team to the job and their passion for the ethos of the event was impressive. Working with the difficult location and varied AV/PA requirements, they delivered the quality and professional service that I have come to expect from B&H.’

World Vision is committed to sustainable development in poor communities, seeking to connect people fighting poverty. B&H provided excellent technical connection to ensure the success of this anniversary celebration.
Announcement – for the Record

picture
B&H Sound Services are pleased to announce that their recording operation is now owned by the Salvation Army Trading Co Ltd (SATCoL).

Managing Director Brian Hillson commented ‘We have worked with Salvationist Publishing & Supplies for 27 years. I couldn’t wish for a safer pair of hands to develop the recording business further and continue the high standards to which we have constantly aspired over all these years.

The continued growth of the operation is secured by a major investment in new studio facilities in Wellingborough. Trevor Caffull, Managing Director of the new Group operation says; ‘B&H have been effectively the “in-house” recording arm of SP&S for longer than I’ve been in the business, and have built up an enviable reputation as a recording company.’

SATCoL are keen to develop their non-Salvation Army clientele, and the remaining B&H departments will still be able to involve their ex-colleagues to deliver fully integrated recording packages.
User Friendly in Basingstoke

picture
The new Salvation Army premises in Basingstoke were specifically designed to be user friendly particularly for people with disabilities. This new complex required an innovative multi-media system, and B&H Syscom were asked to come alongside to help make it a reality.

Major Ron Smith notes, ‘Director Brian Hillson helped us with the initial planning. He advised us about what we would need and how much it would cost. B&H were absolutely tremendous. They were very professional; all their work was extremely clean and tidy. Individuals would take time out to explain how everything worked and how to use it. They helped us to achieve our goals very successfully.’
B&H Syscom installed stage lighting and a switcher/scaler to give the ability to relay sound and vision to other rooms in the complex.

The result was another user friendly solution to meet complex AV requirements.

Showcasing a Diva

Soprano Rita Cullis’ career is being showcased on You Tube and via a DVD circulating around the operatic world. Although this is a recent development, the technical expertise and working relationship that B&H Sound Services provided to achieve this go back decades. Cullis’ manager Richard Kauffman who until recently headed the brass department at Oundle School explains, ‘I have enjoyed an ongoing association with B&H for over 20 years. Whenever we did large events, they gave everyone the opportunity for hands-on involvement.’

He wanted state of the art technology to ensure production quality and B&H was his choice. The team included James Southby who notes, ‘My career was launched with the encouragement of both Richard Kauffman and B&H, and it all began when I was a student at Oundle School.’

Richard Kauffman said, ‘I know that B&H offer both professional standards and value for money. I always come to them because I know they will deliver the best quality.’
Out of this World

picture
Event and media production company Creative io and B&H Sound Services recently enabled an annual business forum to ‘boldly go where it had never gone before’. The effect was ‘out of this world’ with people ‘transported at warp factor 5’ to new levels of inter galactic excitement. The theme (if you haven’t already guessed) was Star Trek!

With B&H providing high quality sound, video projection and lighting effects, Creative io beamed people off the big screens onto the stage. The event also included a Star Trek spoof, presentations and a live band – all with full audio visual support.

Creative io Director Gavin Forster commented, ‘A big thank you must go to B&H for providing such good integration of audio visual – allowing us technical and creative control. B&H were superb as the theme allowed us to exploit video, lighting and audio effects to the max.

‘And for next year? Creative io and B&H can team up for “The Next Generation”.’
Launching Hope 08

picture
A rousing New Year’s Eve event at Peterborough Cathedral helped to launch Hope 08, an initiative which demonstrates Christian faith in action and offers people hope for the future. The programme included a lively five-piece band with the audience of approximately 1000 people joining in with singing.

A distributed PA system was used to cover the cathedral nave area for the band and various presenters and speakers. Due to the challenging acoustics in the cathedral, the system had to be used sensitively to reinforce the sound and produce a balanced result for the sizeable audience. A large screen projection system was also brought in to form a dynamic stage backdrop.

Simon Campling of the Peterborough Hope Steering Committee and CROPS Trust said, ‘The service from B&H was excellent. All of the team were great in helping out. The sound that filled the cathedral was amazing – we couldn’t have done it any other way.’
